  • A Cheyenne family shared a creative moment when a young child built a potato cannon using starter fluid and household items after a visit to Tractor Supply on Tuesday; the homemade device misfired and splattered a spud on the yard while showcasing his inventive spirit.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Laramie County School District is seeking nominations for the 2026 Educational Support Person and Teacher of the Year awards. Nominations close on Feb. 2 for support staff and on Feb. 6 for teachers, with entries accepted online at LCSD1.  Cap City News
  • The Wyoming Interagency Working Group on Childcare has opened applications for the 2026 Childcare Start Up Grant program to offer up to 20,000 dollars for local providers seeking to expand services in rural and high needs areas, with submissions due by March 1 (details online).  KING FM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Utah-based rPlus Hydro submitted a revised plan for a pumped-water storage project at Seminoe Reservoir that aims to reduce impacts on local wildlife and recreation, and Wyoming DEQ will host a public meeting on Jan. 21 to review water quality issues.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laramie County commissioners approved a multi-billion-dollar project near Terry Ranch Road that will include Crusoe's AI data center and Tallgrass’ gas-fired hub; the campus (expected to power 2.7 gigawatts and create 5,000 jobs) will begin construction with initial buildings planned for the second quarter of 2027.  Cap City News
  • Rob Creager, executive director of Wyoming Energy Authority, has been appointed to the National Coal Council for a two-year term; he will help ensure Wyoming's coal industry remains a strong influence in federal energy policy *despite evolving national priorities*.  KING FM

  • Tyler Hughes — a record breaker at William and Mary — joined the Wyoming Cowboys Monday via social media. He has one season left to play and his move sets up an open battle for the starting job in upcoming spring and fall camps in Laramie.  KGAB
