COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Laramie County has announced 24 nonprofits as partners for its 2026 — 2028 funding cycle following a volunteer-led review for measurable community impact. Grants from United Way, Cheyenne and Laramie County funds will support services in healthy community, youth opportunity, financial security and community resiliency.  Cap City News
  • Registration is now open for Cheyenne Recreation Division’s Adult Co-Rec Dodgeball and Cornhole Leagues; games begin April 7 on Tuesday evenings at the Youth Activity and Community Center. Teams + individuals can sign up online or at Kiwanis Community House before March 13.  City of Cheyenne

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents at South High School addressed the Laramie County School District 1 Board on Monday, alleging that delayed grades and lost math assignments forced students to photograph their work. The issues have prompted demands for stricter oversight of the math department.  Cap City News
  • The LCSD1 Board celebrated Alta Vista Elementary earning National ESEA Distinguished School status on Monday while recognizing students for improved academics and community participation. Trustees also honored Cheyenne Police Sgt. Rob Peete returning to patrol after four years as school resource officer supervisor (and commended Arp Elementary for its Purple Star School award).  Cap City News
  • Laramie County School District 1 officials met Monday to restart a Safe Routes to School initiative that will improve sidewalk safety and manage traffic near 37 schools. They are gathering student travel data to inform community partners — seeking long-term funding and changes in school release and parking procedures.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State board officials in Douglas heard residents voice concerns about a growing wind turbine corridor on state trust lands last Thursday — critics said unchecked development threatens ranching, tourism, agriculture, and water resources. Gov. Gordon proposed repurposing a Wyoming Environmental Quality Act provision while tensions with his Secretary of State surfaced.  Cap City News
  • Nine legislators voted Tuesday at the Capitol to cut the Wyoming Business Council's two-year budget from $94.2 million to $2 million, a move that could dismantle the agency if a standalone bill is approved. The preliminary decision may be reversed in the full legislative session starting Feb. 9.  Cowboy State Daily

  • Former Wyoming Cowboys made an impact in recent NFL Wild Card games. Josh Allen of Buffalo, despite injuries, threw 28 of 35 passes for 273 yards and scored on the ground — fueling a narrow win over Jacksonville while other Wyoming alums logged key stats as teams advanced.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • The Wyoming Cowboys fell to Nevada 92-83 on Saturday at Lawlor Event Center in Reno as head coach Sundance Wicks stressed the need for better defense. Nasir Meyer led the team with 27 points as the Cowboys now stand at 11-5 overall.  106.3 Cowboy Country
