CULTURE NEWS

  • Cheyenne is considering a new PRCA headquarters and Hall of Fame on a 35-acre campus near I-25 and I-80 — funding from public and private sources, including $15 million from the LEADS Board and pending Wyoming Legislature approval, will be needed before an early 2029 move can begin.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • On Sept. 5, Bonnie Raitt will perform at the Cheyenne Civic Center as part of her summer tour across North America. Tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m.  Cap City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After teachers, parents and administrators testified against hidden tradeoffs such as larger classes and reduced funding, lawmakers scaled back cuts in the public education proposal. The revised bill now includes smaller class sizes and placeholders for support services and will be reviewed at the Legislature’s budget session in February.  Cap City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • ConnectGen has proposed a smaller wind farm west of Cheyenne with 139 turbines on 42,000 acres and is hosting an open house today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kiwanis Community House amid local concerns over wildlife and scenic impact.  KGAB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mark Gordon proclaimed Feb. 1 as Unclaimed Property Day to encourage residents to search for nearly $350 million held by the state—funds including forgotten bank accounts and unpaid benefits. State Treasurer Curt Meier reported over $41.3 million was paid out from roughly 6,000 claims last fiscal year.  Cap City News
  • Today, high winds from a Pacific front forced the Wyoming Department of Transportation to close parts of I-25 and I-80 in Laramie County and southeast Wyoming for light, high-profile vehicles (under 20,000 or 35,000 pounds) to reduce blow-over risks. Gusts may reach 60 mph before subside after sunrise.  Cap City News

  • WyoPreps polls on Wednesday placed Cokeville girls at 1A No. 1 and Thermopolis boys at 2A No. 1 while Cheyenne Central climbed to second in 4A after beating Cheyenne East (wins that spurred the change).
