COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jim Walter, who served as interim President & CEO, is now Visit Cheyenne’s President & CEO after a national search that reviewed 250 applicants. He will lead tourism marketing, visitor services, and community outreach to boost Cheyenne’s brand.  KFBC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition will open Monday, Feb. 9 at the Wyoming Capitol and features 62 works by 53 artists selected from 383 entries (showcasing contemporary Wyoming trends) while public voting for the People’s Choice Award begins (via Facebook and in person).  Cap City News
  • DJ Nyke celebrated 14 years on the air after launching his first radio show on Feb. 2, 2012, and now he shares local news & music on weekday mornings. He started on part-time weekends at 104.7 Kiss FM before moving to a full‑time role that highlights his local dedication.  KING FM
  • LCCC's exhibition (Bustles of Modernity: A New Look at the West) runs to Feb. 23 at the Esther and John Clay Fine Art Gallery and features artist Laura Phelps Rogers' sculptures reexamining Western life. A reception at 2 p.m. and talk at 3 p.m. are set for Feb. 11.  Cap City News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent GasBuddy survey showed Wyoming gas prices rose by 2.7 cents to $2.51 per gallon over the past week; however, they remain 42.7 cents lower than a year ago. The report covered 494 stations across the state.  KING FM
  • Laramie County’s average price for regular gasoline fell 1 cent to $2.46 per gallon this week. Cheyenne motorists find the cheapest fuel at Moody’s Rock Stop (901 W. Pershing Blvd.) and Walmart, following a national trend of a similar drop.  Cap City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming began 2026 with 31% of its land in drought plus 34% abnormally dry due to western mountains shedding moisture from incoming Pacific air. Cheyenne may face drier conditions as the state averages just 12.9 inches of rain, ranking it as the third driest in the nation.  KGAB
  • Data from the National Weather Service shows Wyoming’s winter has been warm with temperatures up to 13 degrees above average, and Cheyenne was over 2 degrees above normal in January. Meteorologists expect a phase change next week that could bring colder air and wet, heavy snow to help spring growth.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Today, Lander Lil - the local bronze groundhog perched at the post office - predicted an early spring as milder temperatures have been recorded in Wyoming’s lowlands while western mountains show above-normal snowpack. Local forecasters say a shift in the high-pressure system may bring winter weather later.  KGAB

  • Wyoming lawmakers are proposing a new $30M loan program to support affordable housing in the community + the measure is expected to be reviewed in upcoming sessions.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities begins repairing a damaged 42-inch water main today south of town; the project is expected to last three weeks (subject to weather and materials) and may cause fluctuating pressure and discolored water.  Cap City News
  • Gov. Mark Gordon and the U.S. Forest Service signed an updated agreement last month to work together in managing federal forest lands, a move expected to improve land stewardship.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Wyoming Cowboys won by leading the game from start to finish, with Bennett’s 22 points and 10 rebounds pushing the 68-57 victory over Colorado State. The game was played in front of a season crowd of 6,384 and the Pokes will visit San Diego State Tuesday at 9 p.m. MT.  KING FM
  • Grant Lott, a three-star freshman (6‑ft 4) from Fort Zumwalt South, is expected to see early playing time as Wyoming reworks its offensive line this fall. Coaches praised his size and versatility as he joins a class with other promising rookies.  106.3 Cowboy Country
