ECONOMY NEWS

  • Cheyenne leaders plan to attract the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association with a $30 million bid — including $15 million from state lodging taxes and private funds — to boost local tourism; the proposal will be debated after Feb. 9 as some Freedom Caucus members oppose using tax money for the effort.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Young artists are invited to enter the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's Student Conservation Stamp Art Competition that features the Arctic Grayling. Entries must be submitted by April 9 at 5 p.m. at Cheyenne headquarters to compete for cash prizes in four age groups, and a livestream workshop will offer guidance.  KGAB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has delayed finalizing new grizzly bear rules until Dec. 18, citing staffing shortages and regulatory backlogs (including a recent federal shutdown), which leaves conservationists and ranchers divided over potential changes to protections for the iconic Northern Rockies species.  KING FM

  • Jeff Davis assumed the role of Deputy Director at Wyoming Game and Fish on Feb. 2, bringing his Colorado experience to lead policy and external affairs as the department addresses ongoing wildlife and habitat challenges while replacing retired deputy Doug Brimeyer.  KING FM
  • Visit Cheyenne announced Monday that former vice president Jim Walter was hired as its new president and CEO after a national search that drew 250 applicants (Walter is expected to boost local tourism efforts).  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • Laramie County approved up to $25K for the America 250 concert by the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra at the State Capitol on July 4 + renewed a snow removal deal for South Greeley Highway and Fox Farm Road through Feb. 4, 2027.  Cap City News
