COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bowlers will join Jason's Friends fundraisers on Feb. 28 in Casper and on March 7 in Gillette and Cheyenne – each participant must collect $100 to bowl, enjoy free food and draws, and support Wyoming families facing childhood cancer.  Cap City News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture increased Wyoming Sugar Company, LLC’s sugar beet allotment from 46,264 to 60,519 short tons, giving local growers more chances to sell their crop and keep factory lines running in Lovell and Worland, a move expected to boost this key industry.  KING FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During Monday’s board meeting, LCSD1 recognized outstanding students for academic and science fair achievements, including East High senior Trent Rysell and seventh grader Itzel Soto Dominguez. Superintendent Stephen Newton updated on 17 state bills and announced School Board Appreciation Week will be celebrated Feb. 23 — 27.  Cap City News
  • In historic state chambers, three justices grilled the Wyoming Education Association on Tuesday over its challenge to the $30M Steamboat Legacy Scholarship Act, a school choice program that was blocked last summer.   • Families in the Deming area got zone clarity when the LCSD1 board unanimously approved new boundaries on Monday. Students north of Pershing Boulevard will attend Davis Elementary, while those south will join Pioneer Park (with an option to switch) as the district aims to balance school capacity.  Cap City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Due to a lingering snow drought, water authorities have set early season restrictions on diversions from the North Platte River + local municipalities now face reduced water access. Officials say measures will remain until precipitation improves.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

  • Community members in green gathered Monday at a City Council meeting to oppose forced annexation of the urban farm WY fresh. Mayor Patrick Collins said the issue will go to the Public Services Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 17 (further review pending).  Cowboy State Daily
