COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Thursday, Feb. 19, HD Outdoors will auction its Wyoming Commissioner's license remotely via phone or Microsoft Teams to raise funds for expanding support for Veterans statewide. Registration starts at 1:00 pm MST and the auction—beginning with a $30,000 bid and $1,000 increments—runs from 2:00 to 3:00 pm MST.  KING FM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Agriculture columnist Dennis Sun reports cattle numbers fell, with a 32.9 million head calf crop and 27.61 million head beef cow herd — a drop that may raise beef prices in 2026 with fewer replacements. At the Cattle Industry Convention, officials urged producers to expand herds to meet growing demand.  Cowboy State Daily

  • Cheyenne's Senate Education Committee voted to raise UW Hathaway Scholarship amounts for the first time in over a decade; if the state Senate bill becomes law, students may receive increased financial aid in the near future.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Visit Cheyenne named Jim Walter as its permanent CEO on Jan. 30 following a national search that drew 250 applicants. The agency also promoted Lisa Maney to director of convention sales and Amber Trevizo to director of visitor experience as they aim to boost local tourism + economic value.  Cap City News
  • Wyoming lawmakers advanced the Stem Cell Freedom Act (SF 42) on Friday, Feb. 13, which would let local doctors offer non-FDA-approved stem cell treatments derived from patients' own cells to treat chronic conditions while providing legal safeguards during the doctor-patient relationship.  Cowboy State Daily
  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will host public meetings in March for the 2026 hunting season, including an event at Cheyenne headquarters on March 23 at 6 p.m. Hunters and landowners can share their feedback ahead of the application deadline.  KGAB

  • Wyoming’s Cowboys head south today for a rivalry game against Colorado State with tipoff at 2 p.m. at Moby Arena and broadcast on Mountain West Network. Coach Sundance Wicks described the venue as electric (a cage fight like atmosphere) despite missing key players.  KGAB
  • Cheyenne Frontier Days announced it will host 10 days of professional rodeo from July 17 to 26 as part of its 130th celebration. Increased prize money and national qualifying rounds will decide entries for final events at Frontier Park.  Cap City News
