COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bowl for Jason’s Friends will benefit Wyoming children facing cancer. The fundraiser takes place Saturday, March 7 at Derby Lanes in Cheyenne from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and in Gillette at Camelanes Bowling Center from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (a key support effort).  Cap City News
  • Cheyenne Animal Shelter closed Nancy Mockler Dog Park on March 1 (for cleaning, repairs and removal of broken equipment caused by vandalism and misuse) and will keep it closed until June 1 while staff assess long-term improvements.  Cap City News

  • Laramie County gas prices rose by 1 cent to $2.75 per gallon today; Wyoming’s state average reached $2.73 + prices are tracking a gradual national increase.  Cap City News
  • GasBuddy data shows fuel prices in Wyoming averaged $2.69 per gallon today, with a range from $2.29 to $3.19. Seasonal and market factors are driving price differences across the state.  KING FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jackson Lucero, an eighth grader at Carey Junior High, was named LCSD1 Student of the Week for March 2. He holds a 4.0 GPA and participates in sports and clubs (National Junior Honor Society, football, basketball, track, Boy Scouts) with staff praising his calm and dedicated attitude.  Cap City News
  • Laramie County School District 1 reported math gains and fewer early readers scoring basic after teacher coaching and a revised curriculum at a Monday work session. The district also shared that its Second Chance Breakfast program increased daily meal participation at three high schools amid School Breakfast Week.  Cap City News

  • Cowboy Swimmers won MPSF titles in the 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard freestyle relay in Pharr, Texas. Wyoming finished third with 726 points (behind Air Force and UNLV) as the squad prepares for the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships later this week.  KGAB
  • Three Wyoming Olympic athletes made history at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Breezy Johnson won the nation’s first gold medal in Alpine Skiing, Jaelin Kauf earned two silver medals in mogul skiing, and Anna Gibson became the first American woman competitor in Ski Mountaineering, officials said.  KING FM
  • The Big 12 Conference released wrestling championship brackets that include seven University of Wyoming student-athletes — with Joey Novak seeded No. 2 — while the tournament will begin Friday at 9 a.m. in the BOK Center.  KGAB
  • On Saturday, the Wyoming Cowgirls won in the Bounce Cancer Game over Air Force but lost to SDSU in San Diego as turnovers led to a 21 point gap by halftime (star Jane Rumpf scored 27). They will host Grand Canyon today at 5 p.m. with four seniors honored.  KGAB
