Good morning, Cheyenne. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 16th of March.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gillette resident Wes Johnson went viral after posting a video of himself dancing while shoveling snow and later danced with Gov. Mark Gordon in the Capitol rotunda when the state approved $131 million to replace Campbell County High School—he now plans to lead flash mob dances across more Wyoming communities. Johnson's efforts are part of a growing movement to share positivity and bring local residents together.  Cowboy State Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • Cheyenne police detectives are investigating a drop-box theft on Taft Avenue after two individuals were seen stealing deposits on March 10th from a property management group and are asking anyone with information to come forward.  KFBC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Casper residents Casey Rislov and Zak Pullen have finished a new children’s book called A Home For Steamboat about a legendary bucking horse that is part of our state’s history. The book will hit shelves in April and tells the story from a grandfather’s view to connect readers with Wyoming’s heritage.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Chancey Williams, a Wyoming native and 2024 Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame inductee, will open for Brooks and Dunn on July 23—marking his fifth performance on the main stage. He is known for performing authentic country music that reflects his deep rodeo and ranch roots.  Cowboy State Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife biologists say wolves in our area rarely attack people because they have plenty of room and natural prey — unlike in northern India where attacks in 2024 reportedly killed 10 people, including children. Researcher Kristin Barker and other experts explain that Wyoming’s healthy habitats keep human-wolf contact extremely low.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columnist Joan Barron writes that Wyoming needs more smart women in the legislature to help fix the big pay gap where women earn only 65 cents for every dollar men make. She cites leaders like Cheyenne lawyer Tara Nethercott — one of seven female senators — and says better education can help more women run for office.  Cowboy State Daily
