CRIME NEWS

  • A Cheyenne man, Brian Scott Mattert (49), is accused of pepper-spraying officers during a fight in a driveway on March 4 after interfering with a traffic stop and then throwing his glasses at a jail nurse, and he faces felony charges that could lead to up to 11 years in prison and fines nearing $12,000.  Cowboy State Daily
  • A new series on Keith Hunter Jesperson, known as The Happy Face Killer, will stream on Paramount Plus on March 20th and recounts a rare 1998 phone interview conducted when he was in Laramie County jail for killing at least eight women — an account recalled by a local reporter for its chilling lack of remorse.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • A Cheyenne man was arrested on March 15 for vehicle theft and burglary after officers tracked his blue Toyota Tacoma—reported as stolen—to a house on Hynds Avenue, where he fled on foot and was later found with the vehicle’s keys; he now faces extra charges from an earlier burglary where a brick thrown through a window injured a victim.  Cap City News

  • Today, Laramie County gas prices fell 1 cent for the third straight week, making them among the state’s cheaper averages while other counties saw increases. The national average dropped for the fourth week to $3.02 per gallon amid concerns over tariffs & slowing demand.  Cap City News

  • Students Loriana Walter, Vincent Gallizzi, and Addyson Brekhus from East High School won overall Best in Show at the 71st annual Stars of Tomorrow competition on March 9 with a vocal performance of "Time After Time" — their win brings $750 to each winning school and an extra $750 to East High for its arts and music programs.  Cap City News
  • The Laramie County Library System is asking local artists to propose a community art project for its Summer Reading Challenge—artists from Cheyenne, Pine Bluffs and Burns must submit proposals by 5 p.m. April 14—while a committee will choose the winner by May 1.  Cap City News
  • Laramie County School District 1 will consider renewing nutrition services and a reading intervention contract and awarding professional services for replacing Arp Elementary School plus a video scoreboard project during a board meeting on Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Story Gym Boardroom in Cheyenne, with virtual access via Zoom—bids show GH Phipps submitted the lowest base amounts for the scoreboard packages while routine consent matters and staff recognitions will also be approved.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laramie County commissioners met Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 3:30 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse in Cheyenne to review a permit application from a fireworks business that had been denied last year until a judge’s order allowed its request—they also considered a legal services agreement for indigent parents and several contracts for monitoring services, IT support, event catering, and inmate tracking. The meeting was open to the public with options to comment online.  Cap City News
