COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The sixth annual Grow A Little Extra program is kicking off across Wyoming today, coordinated by local University of Wyoming Extension offices & community partners to support food collection efforts.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board is asking residents to nominate qualifying historic homes for the annual Dubois Award. Submissions are due by April 10 (properties must be at least 50 years old and used mainly as a residence) for awards presented each May.  Cap City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laramie County School District 1 named a Student of the Week (celebrating academic and extracurricular achievements) to encourage excellence across the district.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • Christell Gomez is an LCSD1 accounts receivable specialist recognized as the Board Employee Spotlight for March. She has worked for the district for four years and is noted for going the extra mile in supporting school projects.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laramie County enacted emergency Stage 1 fire restrictions Tuesday to ban fireworks and outdoor burning due to severe drought and low snowfall; the board launched a 45-day public comment period to update fireworks sales rules and approved local permits subject to upcoming changes.  Cap City News
  • Emergency officials have launched a public form for Laramie County residents to report property damage, downed trees and large limbs after a recent high wind event. City crews and partners will use the data to coordinate debris cleanup and recovery efforts.  Cap City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior guard Leland Walker, who averaged 13.7 points this season, will play his final session in a Wyoming uniform tonight in Kansas as the Cowboys face the Shockers at 5 p.m. on ESPNU & his teammates aim to build on their recent momentum.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • City officials in Cheyenne have opened registration for youth tee ball and adult summer basketball leagues with discounts through mid-April. The tee ball league starts June 8 at Cahill Park while the basketball league begins May 18 with forms available online (or in person) at Kiwanis Community House.  Cap City News
