CRIME NEWS

  • A McCormick Junior High School teacher was charged with unlawful contact by Laramie County authorities on Thursday after a March 4 altercation with a student outside the school (video shows him pleading) that led to his removal from the classroom.  Cowboy State Daily

  • Cheyenne artist James Overstreet unveiled a new Elvis mural on the west wall of the R&B Breakfast Club on East Lincolnway this week, blending local Wyoming imagery + Elvis’ classic look to draw community attention.   • Laramie County substitute teacher and military veteran Ryan Shollenberger is seeking the Libertarian Party nomination for state superintendent of public instruction at the party convention on May 31 ahead of the Aug. 18 primary; he supports education choice and boosting teacher pay.  Cap City News
  • Three Laramie County seniors—Isabelle Conwell of Cheyenne Central, Brody Medina of East High, and Hattie Lerwick of Pine Bluffs—were named Daniels Scholars today by the Daniels Fund, joining 205 students across four states who will receive up to $100,000 in scholarships over four years.  Cap City News
  • The University of Wyoming board chose Brigadier General Shane Reeves, a Sweetwater native and West Point dean, as the 29th president to start in July. Reeves said he aims to build bridges and reduce drama (connecting with lawmakers and community leaders) to strengthen statewide ties.  Cowboy State Daily
  • A Cheyenne resident earned a spot on SVSU’s fall 2025 dean’s list at the University Center in Michigan along with more than 1,880 other students, marking a notable academic achievement.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

  • Cheyenne is annexing parts of Laramie County to support new data centers, including Project Jade + Meta’s Project Cosmo, said Mayor Patrick Collins to secure tax revenue for funding critical infrastructure.  Cowboy State Daily
  • The Laramie County Library System will launch a new online room reservation system on April 9 to let residents book study and meeting rooms at its Cheyenne, Pine Bluffs and Burns locations. Reservations will be paused from 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 until 9 a.m. Thursday to prepare for the update.  Cap City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cheyenne officials said the city’s drinking water met all federal health standards in 2025 after tests from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 found no violations of regulations. The annual Consumer Confidence Report by the Board of Public Utilities confirmed the quality of water drawn from both surface and groundwater sources.  Cap City News
