COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 20th Annual Cheyenne Day of Giving will be held on May 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kiwanis Community House, with a youth event on May 8 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.—founded by Greta Morrow after her battle with cancer, the events will help local charities support residents in need with essential donations.  KGAB

CRIME NEWS

  • Ricardo Paez Quinones, a twice deported immigrant accused of smuggling 18,000 rounds of ammunition and suspected of cartel ties, skipped his bond hearing Friday—prompting a bench warrant for his arrest.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eko Cauwenberghs, a junior at Triumph High School, was named Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of April 28—recognizing her strong academic performance and creative work. She is enrolled in classes at Laramie County Community College, has her artwork displayed on campus, and placed 2nd at the state level in DECA’s Online Business Challenge personal finance category.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CASA announced that its federal funding was terminated by the U.S. Department of Justice after over 360 grant awards were rescinded this week — CASA of Laramie County said the cuts endanger its training of volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children. The department stated that programs may appeal if they can prove a direct impact on victims.  Cap City News
  • City officials announced plans for Freedom Point, a new veterans' memorial in Lions Park that will feature the Soldier's Cross & compass rose along with tributes for veterans and first responders. Fundraising is underway with the public encouraged to purchase commemorative bricks, and the project will be completed in Spring 2026.  City of Cheyenne
