ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Former Cheyenne Frontier Days champion Roy Cooper, a rodeo hall of famer, died on Tuesday evening in a house fire near Decatur, Texas + he was 69 and officials are investigating the blaze while the community remembers his record-setting career.  KGAB

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, Harold Beckley, 45, an inmate at the Laramie County Detention Center, faced felony charges after he ripped out a tooth — then spat bloody saliva on deputies when they attempted to secure him for a medical evaluation.  Cap City News
  • A Cheyenne resident had thousands of dollars' worth of power tools stolen from a garage on the 9600 block of Smoking Oak Road before April 10—three DeWalt impact drills were among the stolen items—and the Laramie County Sheriff's Office is asking for tips as informants may receive up to $1,000.  KING FM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Laramie County Community College will conclude its spring concert series with two performances at the Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium, featuring a free jazz concert on May 7 at 7 p.m. and a special show combining Alliance Brass & LCCC Faculty Brass Quartet on May 8 at 7:30 p.m., with the latter marking the final event of the 90-year Southeast Wyoming Concert Series followed by a reception celebrating its legacy.  Cap City News
  • Cheyenne’s Fridays on the Plaza festival celebrates its 20th anniversary with 23 artists scheduled from June 6 through Aug. 15 at Depot Plaza—concerts will start at 6 p.m. with headliners at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature music from national touring acts and local talent and include a special extended show on July 23 featuring The Burroughs with Third Rail.  Cap City News
  • The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro William Intriligator, will present its 70th season finale Fortune & Glory on Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cheyenne Civic Center— the concert will open with Richard Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks and close with Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana featuring local soloists, choirs, and a special children’s chorus, while free pre-show events on May 9 and May 10 offer additional insight.  Cap City News

  • Kamryn Tafoya, a seventh grader at McCormick Junior High, was named Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of May 5.
