COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Cheyenne will host the third annual Spill the Tea fundraiser on June 6 to raise money for Meals on Wheels, which recently delivered a record 15,000 meals in one month. The event will include a 9 a.m. teacup relay (hosted by comedian Dominic Syracuse) and live music from noon to 3 p.m.  Cap City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, the Laramie County School District 1 board discussed the shuttered Deming Elementary building's future at its work session (5:30 p.m.) and finalized options during a regular meeting (6 p.m.), including repurposing it for administration, transferring, leasing, or selling the facility.  Cap City News
  • On Monday night, the LCSD1 Board of Trustees honored Central High’s Clayton Fodder as Student of the Week for his work with student government (and community programs), recognized Alta Vista Elementary for earning a National Gold Star School award, and celebrated East High athletes for winning multiple state championships.  Cap City News
  • At its June 1 meeting, the school board approved Cheyenne Central High School fundraisers for group trips to national events and a $70,000 weight room equipment purchase for Cheyenne South High School—plus a contract with Payer Matrix LLC to lower prescription drug costs.  Cap City News
  • LCSD1 reported 903 graduates at four high schools on May 29, including Triumph High School with its largest class in 15 years. Superintendent Dr. Newton noted an on-time graduation rate over 80% — the best since before COVID.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cheyenne City Council reviewed a draft safety plan on Friday, May 29 that shows 60% of severe crashes occur on 14% of roads. It outlines 59 projects, including rebuilding intersections and adding calming measures, and is open for public comment.  Cap City News
  • Cheyenne Transit Program launches a temporary pilot circular route today to handle summer ridership. The route runs until Aug. 31 and starts/ends at Stinson Avenue + West 17th Street, traveling downtown and through the Dell Range corridor.  Cap City News
