  • Cheyenne’s annual fireworks show will light up Frontier Park starting at 9:35 p.m. on July 4 as neighborhoods across town enjoy the display while the north end of Lions Park welcomes foot traffic and Carey Avenue closes to vehicles at 3 p.m.—the event is presented by Cheyenne Frontier Days in partnership with the city and Laramie County.  KGAB

CRIME NEWS

  • The CEO of a Cheyenne counseling clinic and a senior staff member were charged with Medicaid fraud for allegedly billing thousands of dollars for biofeedback sessions not covered by state law—charges that include conspiracy, fraud and perjury—and both received a $5,000 signature bond.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a Monday meeting, the Cheyenne City Council advanced a plan to use hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal funds for low- and moderate-income support over the next three years—covering projects like sidewalk repairs, job training, and digital literacy services managed by the Housing and Community Development Office. The proposal details allocations from HUD and repurposed CDBG funds, with a public comment period that ran from June 9 to July 8 and a Finance Committee hearing scheduled for July 8.  Cap City News
  • Cheyenne City Council approved Andrew Dykshorn as the new Cheyenne Fire Rescue chief—replacing retiring Chief John Kopper who will step down at the end of June. The council also approved board appointments—adding new and returning members to advisory boards in public transit, economic development, urban renewal and historic preservation.  Cap City News
  • On Monday, June 23, Cheyenne City Council approved new rules on park fees, window sign sizes, and an expanded ban on feeding birds—measures that include a school fee exemption and an updated reporting deadline. The council also confirmed that traffic violations remain civil and introduced a new rule to align firearm regulations with state law, with Mayor Patrick Collins noting it will be sent for committee review.  Cap City News
  • Wyoming lawmakers have proposed new tax increases on historic horse racing betting machines and online sports bets to help local governments manage the rapid growth of gambling. Cheyenne officials worry about rising problem gambling—as the state’s handle exceeded $2.1 billion in 2024—and the move may address community concerns.  Cap City News
  • On Monday, the Cheyenne City Council approved a funding agreement of $253,571 (to protect SkyWest Airlines flight service linking Cheyenne and Denver) as part of a city, county, and state deal. The funds will become payable only if the airline does not meet its guaranteed revenue margin (covering air service through fiscal year ending June 30).  Cap City News
