CRIME NEWS

  • A Cheyenne man, 27-year-old Alfredo Isaac Najera, was arrested on July 30 on five felony charges for allegedly possessing videos of explicit sexual conduct involving minors—he is set to appear in court on August 11 at 11 a.m.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • Cheyenne man Luis Arturo Murillo Lopez was arrested on Wednesday, July 30 at 9:24 p.m. for allegedly strangling a household member—causing bloodshot eyes and a raspy voice—and faces felony and misdemeanor charges with his bond set at $5,000 cash—he is not allowed any contact with the victim and his next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, August 5 at 11 a.m.  KING FM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Aug. 1, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne issued severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings at 5:31 p.m.—when dark green skies, large hail, and intense lightning were reported—and by 7 p.m. no damage had been noted as the storm moved east toward Nebraska.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brian Nesvik (former Wyoming Game and Fish Department director) was confirmed by the Senate as the new director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Gov. Gordon praised his many years of state experience. Ducks Unlimited welcomed his leadership, while conservation groups (which have raised concerns over his views on the Endangered Species Act and plans to delist grizzly bears) reported mixed reactions.  Cap City News
  • Wyoming’s Brian Nesvik was confirmed as the new head of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Friday after a 54—43 Senate vote. His long career in state wildlife management is set to influence future actions on grizzly bear status and other conservation policies.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Cheyenne Police Chief Mark Francisco asked the City Council on Aug. 1 for $6.175 million in sixth-penny tax funds to upgrade equipment, replace vehicles, and build new training and storage facilities—councilors discussed a loan strategy to finance the projects similar to past public safety investments.  Cap City News
