CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Cheyenne artist Jordan Dean is using two boom lifts—one to project the image and one to paint—to create two giant horses that stand between 60 and 70 feet tall on a prominent water tank using paint that costs $400 per gallon, and he is about 20 percent done as weather permits. He will finish the mural soon and plans to paint the other tank next summer if private funding allows. Cowboy State Daily

- ➤ Columnist Joan Barron recalled Cheyenne’s historic storm on August 1, 1985 that dropped up to 7.87 inches of rain in three hours, killing 12 and injuring 70—leading local officials to later enhance flood warnings and control measures. Cowboy State Daily
- ➤ Today, due to extreme fire danger, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department declared an open fire ban on all Game and Fish lands in Albany, Carbon, Goshen, Laramie and Platte counties, affecting 14 Wildlife Habitat Management Areas and 43 Public Access Areas including spots like Laramie Peak and Glendo Lake. - ➤ On August 1, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department opened organization applications for antelope hunt event licenses available for up to two events a year under state law—applications must include detailed hunt areas, license types, and financial plans by August 31. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Wyoming Department of Health reported four more measles cases in Carbon County—three were unvaccinated and one was immunocompromised—after all were exposed to a confirmed case. The new cases include both adults and children, and no one was hospitalized. Cap City News

- ➤ The University of Wyoming cross country team announced its 2025 schedule with its season beginning at the Wyoming Invite on Aug. 30 in Cheyenne—marking the fifth year it will host the event. They will also race in St. Paul on Sept. 19, at Notre Dame on Oct. 3, and at Missouri on Oct. 18 before starting postseason meets on Halloween in Fresno and on Nov. 14 in Salt Lake City.
