  • Wyoming Pathways will host a free Pedestrian & Cyclist Safety Workshop at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center Community Room on Friday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—local experts and community partners will gather to share safety tips and gather feedback to improve walking and biking conditions.  City of Cheyenne

CRIME NEWS

  • A Cheyenne man was arrested on July 25 for felony forgery after he allegedly forged his ex-girlfriend’s signature on a mobile home title — the investigation showed she was in Hot Springs and did not sign while the notary, who works with him, confirmed she was absent.  Cap City News
  • A 40-year-old Cheyenne man serving a 45-day sentence was arrested on July 28 at his East 5th Street home and now faces eight felony drug charges involving alleged fentanyl distribution—if convicted, he could serve up to 160 years in prison—after an Aug. 5 court appearance set a $25K cash bond with his preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 15.  KING FM

  • Gas prices in Wyoming have dipped to an average of $3.02 a gallon this week — the drop of 1.5 cents comes amid a yearlong decline, with some stations selling gas as low as $2.58.  KING FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cheyenne school officials met Monday to review a plan that would ban student cellphone use during the school day – the discussion focused on mental health, classroom distractions, and safety issues like cyberbullying. Trustees did not vote on the new policy and will continue gathering ideas from staff to decide whether to use Yondr pouches or secure lockers – the final plan must also respect special needs students’ IEPs.  Cap City News
  • Laramie County School District 1 changed its student discipline rules for the 2025-26 school year to a flexible tiered system that lets school leaders handle misbehavior based on its severity and intent. The board also approved updated rules on seclusion, restraint and corporal punishment (open for a 45-day public review), a parking lot replacement project at Alta Vista Elementary set to start in mid to late September, and honored its Community Relations Office with a national Award of Merit.  Cap City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Department of Health recently advised that a harmful blue-green algae bloom has been detected on the West Causeway of Granite Springs Reservoir, located about 30 miles west of Cheyenne at Curt Gowdy State Park – BOPU is working with park officials to alert recreational users and urges residents to avoid water contact with the bloom.  Cap City News

  • The Helmsley Charitable Trust granted nearly $2.4 million to the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs to launch Virtual Crisis Care, a program that gives officers tablets to connect with behavioral health experts for de-escalating mental health crises in remote areas — reducing unnecessary trips to hospitals and jails.  Cap City News
