BUSINESS NEWS

  • Crusoe and Tallgrass are launching an AI data center campus in southern Laramie County that will use Wyoming’s natural gas to power a project starting with a 1.8-gigawatt capacity and expanding to 10 gigawatts. The campus will generate its own power—reducing strain on local grids—and use water-saving and carbon-capture technology to create high-paying jobs for local workers.  Cap City News
  • Wyoming is at the center of a national push to boost domestic rare earth mining as American Rare Earths and Wyoming Rare USA launch projects near Ranchester, Upton, and outside Wheatland with test mining and demonstration plant operations completed this summer—efforts aimed at reducing China’s hold on these critical materials for electric cars and wind turbines. The projects mark the largest concentrated domestic effort in decades and will continue developing processing techniques to turn local ore into valuable magnet oxides.  Cowboy State Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • A 21-year-old Cheyenne man admitted to stealing over $1,000 from Pilot Travel Center on August 21 and was charged with felony theft—he posted a $1,000 bond after a court appearance on August 22 and will face a preliminary hearing on August 29 at 9:45 a.m.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • A 21-year-old Cheyenne man allegedly stole over $1,000 from Pilot Travel Center at 8020 Campstool Rd on Aug. 21 and admitted to the theft when police arrived; he was arrested and booked into Laramie County Detention Center & appeared in court on Aug. 22 with a $1,000 bond & a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 29.  KING FM
  • Cheyenne police arrested 27-year-old Peter Camp at Walmart on Aug. 22 at 10:33 p.m.—he faces felony theft and kidnapping charges with multiple outstanding warrants and must post a $7,000 cash bond before his preliminary hearing on Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m.  KGAB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Eric Barlow announced his run for governor on August 12 and stepped down from chairing the Senate Labor, Health and Social Services Committee because a 1975 rule requires any committee chair running statewide to resign immediately—Senate President Bo Biteman appointed Sen. Evie Brennan as the new chair. Barlow continues as chair of the Mental Health and Vulnerable Adult Task Force and carries on his campaign work across the state.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Several City facilities in Cheyenne will change schedules for Labor Day on Sept 1 because the holiday falls on a Monday—residential trash, recycling, and yard waste pickups will shift one day forward. City offices, transit, and some public sites will close on Sept 1 while other facilities like the Aquatic Center and Ice & Events Center will remain open.  City of Cheyenne
