COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Memorial ceremonies were held around Cheyenne on September 11 to remember the victims of 9/11 — local groups and officials took part as residents paid their respects.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • In Cheyenne, inmate workers volunteered on a cool late-summer Monday morning at Lakeview Cemetery to trim grass and clean headstones in exchange for lunch. The community work gives the men a chance to earn their meal and contribute to local upkeep—part of a program offering work experience.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

CRIME NEWS

  • Students at the University of Wyoming condemned political violence after conservative figure Charlie Kirk was shot on Wednesday in Utah—some students mourned his death while others were indifferent about his legacy.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced more than 16,000 semifinalists in its annual program+ two Cheyenne students were among those recognized.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • Cheyenne students in grades 6, 7 and 8 can now apply for the National Civics Bee Wyoming Regional Competitions organized by the Wyoming Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation—finalists will later compete in the state finals and the winner will represent Wyoming at the national championship in Washington D.C. in fall 2026.  Cap City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking local sage-grouse hunters to submit one wing from each harvested bird to help track the species' health—hunters must leave the other wing attached during transport as required by law. Biologists will analyze the wings after the hunting season from Sept. 20 to 30—data will guide long-term conservation and habitat improvement efforts.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cheyenne — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is accepting nominations for the 2026 Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame to honor those who have made lasting contributions to conservation. Nominations are open until March 2026 and include a youth conservationist award for residents aged 18 or younger.  Cap City News
  • A judge ruled that Wyoming customers owe Rocky Mountain Power $23.5 million, but it is unclear when or how the company will recover the money. Local groups may appeal the decision—making future rate changes uncertain for seniors and others on fixed incomes.  Cowboy State Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wyoming has made progress in reducing suicides, but data from the CDC National Center for Health Statistics shows the state still ranks among the top three with the highest rates.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
