ECONOMY NEWS

  • A federal oil and gas lease sale netted $8.5 million for 32 parcels while the One Big Beautiful Bill cut the royalty rate to 12.5% — this may cost Wyoming up to $11 million in future revenue if all parcels are developed. The BLM and oil companies say lower rates will spur more drilling, while critics say taxpayers will lose money from reduced funds.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cheyenne's Joe Budd was named deputy director of the Wyoming Department of Agriculture and began his role on Sept 22—confirming his new leadership position at the agency.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • At Monday’s meeting, Cheyenne City Council members expressed confusion over a downtown parking restriping and delineation process that had begun without proper notification—frustrating local business owners who were not informed in advance.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • At its June 23 meeting, the Cheyenne City Council approved key contracts for Depot and Municipal Building renovations—including a $1,474,550 design deal—and revised the Capital Improvement Plan update schedule to every three years while increasing the fiscal budget by about $3.55 million. A motion for downtown parking striping failed on a 5–5 vote amid public frustration.  Cap City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Wyoming announced that the Cowboys will open the 2026 season with the Border War against Colorado State on Sept. 5 in Fort Collins—North Texas is now scheduled to play on Sept. 9, 2034. The school also set new dates for consecutive games with the Rams in 2035 and 2036.  KING FM
  • In a game at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado, Kaidon Salter threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns as his team beat Wyoming 37-20—Colorado recorded 497 total yards while Wyoming’s defense struggled to contain the pass. The win boosted the Buffs’ season while Wyoming looks to improve its secondary for future matchups.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • Wyoming head basketball coach Sundance Wicks said top recruit Madden Smiley—last year’s Colorado 5A Player of the Year—verbally committed to join the team for the 2026-27 season while prospect Chris Pohl from Marshfield is expected to sign in mid-November after earning multiple college offers.  106.3 Cowboy Country
