ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lightweight steer calves sold for over seven dollars a pound last week and 1,000-pound yearling steers sold for $3.35, and experts say high beef prices will stay for years due to strong demand and improved cattle genetics. Industry data show that beef imports have risen and other protein exports have fallen—industry watchers now expect these trends to keep prices high.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cheyenne — The Wyoming Department of Education was awarded a $24.4 million federal grant for a Comprehensive Literacy State Development program that will improve reading instruction in schools over the next five years.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On September 21, 2025, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department captured two grizzly bear cubs on private land after hazing attempts failed to change their behavior— the department, in cooperation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Shoshone National Forest, relocated the cubs to the Clarks Fork River drainage 26 miles northwest of Cody.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Attorney General’s Office argued Tuesday that Judge Peter Froelicher’s order — which requires lawmakers to fund school upgrades like providing each student with a computer — improperly gives schools control over funding instead of keeping it with the legislature. The state remains in court appeal as it defends a funding model based on cost estimates and constitutional requirements.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Cheyenne City Council member Scott Roybal died Friday, as announced by the city. He served Ward 1 for decades and held roles such as council president and on the Downtown Development Authority — flags were lowered to half-staff in his honor.  Cap City News
  • Mayor Patrick Collins thanked Council President Rinne for the Council Chronicle update and recounted key city projects while sharing his recent vacation celebrating Judy’s retirement. He highlighted volunteer tree planting with Rooted in Cheyenne — plans to improve the Reed Ave Corridor with BNSF — and support for youth programs following the YMCA closure.  City of Cheyenne
