- ➤ State Forester Kelly Norris reported that 1,317 wildfires burned about 253,000 acres so far in 2025 and that wildfire suppression costs are tracking at $21 million—over 1,000 fires occurred on state and private lands and the largest, the Red Canyon Fire in Hot Springs County, burned more than 124,000 acres before state aviation resources were released on Oct. 1. - ➤ The ACLU said that Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak and 25 deputies—sworn in to help with immigration enforcement—are targeting students and families, a move they argue weakens community trust and safety. KGAB
- ➤ The U.S. Supreme Court will confer on Oct. 17 to decide if it will hear a case from a Wyoming ranch owner who wants to change the rules for letting people cross public lands at checkerboard corners—this decision may change access on millions of acres in the West. - ➤ Today, the City of Cheyenne closed the Cheyenne Municipal Building for 30 days to protect staff and visitors from carbon monoxide exposure—air monitoring is underway as a safety measure. - ➤ Cheyenne City Council has outlined the process to choose a new Ward 1 representative after longtime council member Scott Roybal died. Officials said the appointment process will begin soon to keep Ward 1 represented. Wyoming Tribune Eagle
- ➤ After a council member’s passing last week, Cheyenne City Council will review the vacancy process with a Public Services Committee meeting on Oct. 6 and declare the vacancy on Oct. 13.
