COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cheyenne’s Andy and Amy Corbin broke Wyoming’s state record for the heaviest pumpkin on Saturday when their 2,085-pound pumpkin weighed in at Nick’s Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off in Aurora—though they had expected it to reach at least 2,350 pounds. The record-setting pumpkin was grown in their reused high tunnel and has been sold for public display—allowing many to enjoy its impressive size.  Cowboy State Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Laramie County Library System announced that it will host its 2025 Local Author Celebration on Oct. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Cottonwood Room, where more than 25 regional authors will meet readers - the event offers signed copies and a chance to explore a range of genres.  Cap City News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wyoming's mining and natural resources industry drives billions into the state’s economy—oil and gas have supported over $11 billion in public services and jobs while coal, trona, bentonite, rare earth elements and uranium provide essential economic benefits. The sector remains critical, supporting infrastructure, education and other industries across the state.  KGAB
  • Laramie County drivers saw their average gas price drop 9 cents in the last week to $2.74 per gallon—this is much lower than the national average of $3.08 and the state average of $3.04, making it Wyoming’s second lowest fuel cost.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laramie County commissioners met on Feb. 18th at the Historic Courthouse to review a request to zone 1,375 acres for the Switchgrass Industrial Park—targeting data centers and energy infrastructure while addressing local concerns. They also discussed a $500,000 agreement with HealthWorks to expand opioid treatment services and other community projects.  Cap City News
  • Local and county board members decried state lawmakers interfering in public meetings over decisions about nuclear development and tax cuts. Leaders from several counties demanded clearer boundaries for state authority—insisting that local issues be solved by local officials.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Rep. Karlee Provenza from Laramie wants the government to prove a drug crime by a beyond a reasonable doubt standard before seizing money or property since current law allows seizures based on clear and convincing evidence. She plans to reintroduce her failed Freedom From Government Seizure bill in a future session if reelected+lawmakers and legal officials remain divided on the asset forfeiture rules.  Cowboy State Daily
  • The LCSD1 Board of Trustees will consider a petition for a full hearing on a disputed $55,000 fee for community groups to use district property—five residents and attorney Sam J. Tortorich claim the fee is exorbitant and was approved without proper notice. Trustees will meet today with a work session at 5 p.m. and a meeting at 6 p.m. at Storey Gym Boardroom and via Zoom to also vote on policy and financial agenda items.  Cap City News
  • After the Sept. 26 death of Ward 1 Councilman Scott Roybal, Cheyenne City Council's Public Services Committee declared a vacancy, and the full council will vote on the resolution on Oct. 13.  The Cheyenne Post

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Robin’s Point Apartments, a new 48-unit affordable housing complex, is complete and will host a grand opening on Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m.—the project was built through a public—private partnership that addressed Cheyenne’s housing needs. Local leaders including Mayor Patrick Collins will speak at the celebration to mark this milestone.  Cap City News
