CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday morning, local officials and Cheyenne Animal Shelter staff entered a property and discovered dozens of animals living in horrific conditions—injured, sick, and severely neglected—and they launched an investigation.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board announced that the historic residence at 813 E. 19th St. — owned by Samuel and Josephine Carlson — was chosen for the Dubois Award for Historic Preservation. The Carlsons will host an open house on October 18th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to let visitors explore the home’s architectural legacy in the Rainsford Historic District.  City of Cheyenne
  • Postcards and Pintsized Art will take place Saturday, October 18th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at ART321 on W Midwest Ave — the event will feature live music by A Band Named Sue, local food and drinks, and a silent auction of local artwork — with tickets costing $40 per person or $75 per couple.  KING FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Wyoming’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Cheyenne trains new doctors in family medicine from pharmacy to behavioral health and in a unique Wild West lifesaving curriculum—designed to build practical emergency care skills—through hands-on methods.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews are planting over 120 trees in Cheyenne parks after the Urban Forestry Division received an Urban and Community Forestry grant—this project will expand the city's tree canopy.  The Cheyenne Post
  • Researchers from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and university experts tracked 26 mountain lions in the Laramie Mountains from 2019 to 2023 to see if the cats would return to their meals after being disturbed. The study found that although the lions left their carcasses for about 13 hours, 80% returned — showing their adaptability to human presence.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cheyenne city officials are discussing a change to the weed ordinance to allow taller native grasses on certain properties because the 6-inch limit is seen as impractical—officials expect updated rules to better reflect local landscaping needs.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Laramie County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to award $500K in opioid settlement funds to HealthWorks to expand its treatment programs, hire new staff + supply medication assistance and basic supplies. HealthWorks must submit quarterly reports on the use of the funds as the agreement runs through May 31, 2028.  Cap City News
  • Wyoming health officials and sheriffs are backing a bill that will allow the Health Department to reimburse sheriffs for caring for mentally ill inmates in county jails while they wait for a bed at the state hospital in Evanston—lawmakers will review the measure on Monday, and its backers believe better treatment in jails may ease the long waits and reduce harm. The plan aims to provide access to counselors, medications, and Telehealth services in larger jails, though its success hinges on securing enough funding.  Cap City News

  • A recent survey by Oxi Fresh shows 96% of Wyomingites keep tidy homes — the state scored 135.19 on the Home Cleanliness Index, 7.79 points higher than Delaware. This strong performance highlights the cleanliness habits of local residents.  KGAB

  • The WHSAA board did not allow NIL for prep athletes at a meeting last week and set changes for high school basketball classifications for the 2026-27 season.
