COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The University of Wyoming Extension launched the Wyoming Specialty Crop Directory, a new online database with nearly 1,100 listings of local food products such as produce, jams, and honey. The free resource, funded by a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant, is organized by county—making it easy for residents to find nearby producers.  Cap City News
  • Food Bank of Wyoming launched a new Advisory Council in March that includes nine experts—two from Cheyenne—to fight rising food insecurity that has reached a decade high. The council will advise on strategic plans and build partnerships to help ensure reliable access to nutritious food across the state.  Cap City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • PBS Books is highlighting Wyoming's rich literary history with a reading road trip that features local authors and illustrators — the program will debut October 22 on Facebook and YouTube. The event honors writers who have drawn inspiration from the state's landscapes and culture.  KGAB

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Laramie County’s average gas price dropped 16 cents to $2.66 per gallon today, making it Wyoming’s second-cheapest with some Cheyenne stations offering fuel as low as $2.58 + national prices fell more slowly over the same period.  Cap City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the LCSD1 Board of Trustees met at the Storey Gym Boardroom via Zoom—both in person and online—to decide on a policy that speeds up teacher termination hearings with a 100-day deadline and to vote on a retirement health insurance option contributing up to $789 monthly for eligible employees. They will also consider a resolution for legal changes and vote on School Improvement Plans for six underperforming schools identified by the state education department.  Cap City News

  • The Wyoming State Capitol dome was restored in 2019 with 7 ounces of 24-karat gold leaf, and its raw material value is estimated at $18,480—this figure does not account for the expert labor required during the restoration.  KGAB
  • Furloughed federal workers in Wyoming have faced 17 days of a shutdown with reduced pay, causing financial stress and changes in their daily lives as they check their food supplies and seek counseling. Agencies are offering gift cards and unemployment advice while a federal judge has blocked further layoffs & workers worry about long-term job security.  Cap City News
