EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cheyenne Recreation Division announced a new Tiny Tunes Music Class for children 0 to 7 and their caregivers that will begin the week of Nov. 4 to explore music through singing, movement, and play. Families can register in one of two sessions — Mondays at 10 a.m. or Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. — for the six-week course ending Dec. 17; registration is open until Oct. 30 with a $50 fee and limited spots available. - ➤ The Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees approved improvement plans Monday for six struggling schools (Bain, Goins, Rossman elementary, Johnson and Carey junior high, and South High) that did not meet state performance expectations. The plans include assessments, trainings and monthly check-ins to improve scores, and superintendent Dr. Stephen Newton noted that fewer schools failed to meet expectations compared to last year. - ➤ At its Monday meeting, the Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees honored student and staff achievements, including three Students of the Week and champions in state tennis as well as national speaking. - ➤ The Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees voted Monday to submit a resolution to the Wyoming School Boards Association that required teacher hearings to end within 100 days—allowing superintendents to suspend pay for charged employees. The board also approved raising the monthly retirement health insurance contribution from $779 to $884 and renewed several service contracts. Cap City News
- ➤ The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Fred Eshelman’s appeal, leaving in place a lower-court ruling that allows corner crossing to access 2.44 million acres of public land—an outcome that ends a five-year legal fight. - ➤ After a tough three-point loss to Air Force, coach Jay Sawvel moved Jay Johnson to offensive analyst and promoted Jovon Bouknight to offensive coordinator to give the offense a needed jolt—Wyoming now plans to boost its scoring as it prepares for the Border War against Colorado State on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium. - ➤ Wyoming high school football teams ended Week 7 with playoff implications as Sheridan extended its 51-game win streak by rallying from a halftime deficit at Campbell County and Star Valley recorded 29 straight wins in a blowout over Evanston (standings updated through Oct. 18).
