- ➤ Hilltop Bank signed an agreement to acquire Cheyenne State Bank—approved by both boards and effective Oct. 13—with plans to expand service and build a new branch on Cutoff Road. The deal will close in early 2026 pending regulator approval and shareholder consent. KING FM
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ GasBuddy’s survey of 494 stations showed that Wyoming gas prices fell by 4.4 cents last week, with Monday’s average at $2.86 and the lowest price of $2.45 recorded on Sunday. Drivers paid about 16.6 cents less per gallon than a month ago and 26.6 cents less than a year ago, while price levels varied in nearby Fort Collins, Ogden, and Billings. KING FM
- ➤ Laramie County’s gas price went up 6 cents to $2.72 on Monday, making it the fourth lowest in Wyoming with the lowest at Moody’s Rock Stop on Pershing Blvd—GasBuddy noted the rise was more than twice the national increase of 2.5 cents. Cap City News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new study by ecologists finds that wind turbines kill about one million bats a year in nations with many turbines and harm birds, insects, and local wildlife. The report shows that these machines degrade habitats in regions rich in biodiversity, putting species like Wyoming's golden eagle & other native birds at risk. KGAB
- ➤ A federal auction in June will let oil and gas companies lease more than 250,000 acres in Wyoming, including 88,000 acres that cross key wildlife paths—experts say the move may hurt deer and pronghorn and prompt calls for extra safeguards from the BLM. Officials note that companies plan to use horizontal drilling and existing roads to lessen the impact while conservation groups remain skeptical. Cap City News
