Good morning, Cheyenne. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 2nd of November.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Helena Brennan, a senior at South High School, was named LCSD1’s Student of the Week for the week of Nov. 3—she is recognized for her work mentoring elementary students and for leading her color guard and cheer squad, and she plans to graduate this semester before attending cosmetology school.  Cap City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming residents and environmental advocates spoke against Rocky Mountain Power’s plan in Laramie on Oct. 29, arguing that delaying renewable energy investments until 2030 to support carbon capture for coal plants wastes federal clean energy tax credits—potentially leading to higher utility bills. They urged the governor-appointed Public Service Commission to reject the plan in favor of a modern, diversified energy mix.  Cap City News
  • Columnist Jonathan Lange wrote that lawfare punished free speech when Finnish MP Päivi Räsänen and Bishop Juhana Pohjola were repeatedly interrogated over a Bible tweet, and he linked their ordeal to a near-passed hate speech law in Wyoming in 2015—warning that similar tactics may still threaten free speech today.  Cowboy State Daily

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Amy Surdam is restoring the 1911 Bell Building in downtown Cheyenne to become a mixed-use space with retail, apartments and expanded parking while using tax credits and TIF funding following City Council approval—she led the effort after years of neglect transformed the building’s facade and interior work began last summer.  Cowboy State Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Wyoming High School Football Playoffs continue with 10 semifinal games on November 7 as 20 teams battle for a spot in the state championship. Five title games are scheduled for November 14 and 15 at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie — the winning teams will advance to the state title games.  106.3 Cowboy Country
  • Wyoming lost 24-7 to San Diego State on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium as the Cowboys struggled with only 185 yards of offense and several turnovers — key players were injured and the defense could not compensate for the offensive mistakes.  KGAB
