COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cheyenne's Journey Center for Families, a nonprofit homeless shelter run by COMEA, has closed for the holidays after client behavior caused significant damage. Executive director Robin Bocanegra said repairs will begin Tuesday, and the center is expected to reopen in 2026.  Cowboy State Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian Gary Owen will perform his 'No Hard Feelings' tour at the Cheyenne Civic Center on Sunday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.—marking his first major North American theater run.  Cap City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cheyenne’s PODER Academy has been named a 2025 ESEA Distinguished School for exceptional student performance after 13 years of high test scores and expectations. School officials said the honor recognizes the academy’s commitment to quality education.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle
  • LCCC sophomore Ricky Winters earned national honors when he was chosen to perform with the JEN Intercollegiate Community College Honors Jazz Ensemble at the Jazz Education Network Conference in New Orleans from Jan. 8 to Jan. 11 — he will later transfer to a four-year institution.  Cap City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Sierra Madre and Snowy Range Mountains, forecasting up to 2 feet of snow and winds up to 65 mph from tonight through early Sunday.  KGAB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cheyenne Fire Rescue has introduced a new text survey tool that automatically sends residents a feedback request after service calls. Residents are invited to reply with their comments as the department continues improving its service — do not use this tool in emergencies.  City of Cheyenne
  • The Wyoming Veterans Commission invites the public to a wreath-laying ceremony at the State Capitol on Monday, Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m. to honor fallen and serving veterans with Gov. Mark Gordon and Maj. Gen. Gregory Porter speaking.  Cap City News
  • WYDOT reports 23 gate crashes and near misses since 2020 and urges local drivers to heed road closure signage and use 511 tools during winter to protect staff and avoid costly repairs (almost $180,000 over five years).  Cap City News

  • Wyoming's football program is rebuilding after a 4–8 season as nearly all players from the Bohl era are gone. Head coach Sawvel plans to boost the offense with new recruits and transfers while seeking a veteran quarterback to fill key gaps in the lineup.  KING FM
  • Cheyenne Central offensive lineman Jackson Garrett signed with the Wyoming Cowboys during the early signing period on Wednesday, Dec. 4. He appeared on SportsZone to discuss his decision to join the team.  KFBC
