Good morning, Cheyenne. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 6th of December.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Cheyenne drivers are paying nearly 80 cents more per gallon than those in Denver — where fierce price competition and lower transportation costs keep gas prices below $2. Experts say seasonal fuel blends and supply factors are behind this gap.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Idaho National Laboratory announced this week that it produced the world’s first molten salt fuel for nuclear reactors, a key part of the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment that may lead to a cleaner, safer energy option benefiting Wyoming’s uranium and mining industries — research now will guide future commercial projects.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Laramie County Library System is set to launch its Mobile Library—a full-service library on wheels—on Feb. 17 to reach communities across Laramie County. The current bookmobile service paused on Jan. 5 for staff training and route preparation.  Cap City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The polar vortex is expected to collapse next week, bringing freezing cold and varied winter weather to different parts of Wyoming. Meteorologist Don Day said the changing air masses will bring days of snow in the mountains and icy conditions on the plains (he urged residents not to overreact).  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday at the Capitol, lawmakers grilled the Wyoming Business Council over its $111.8 million budget request (Gov. Gordon recommended just over $54 million in funding). CEO Josh Dorrell defended the proposal, saying more investment in business incentives is needed to support local economic growth.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Wyoming Department of Transportation warns drivers that racing for road closure gates in hazardous winter weather endangers lives and damages equipment (23 gate crashes have occurred since 2020, costing over $180,000) and advises checking the 511 app for updated conditions.  Cowboy State Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wyoming coach Sundance Wicks said the game (in Lubbock) served as an education for rookie Gavin Gores as JT Toppin scored 27 points in a tight 76-72 loss against Texas Tech. The Cowboys will face Dartmouth today at 2 p.m. at the Arena-Auditorium.  KGAB
  • Cheyenne Frontier Days announced it was named the 2025 PRCA Xtreme Bulls Venue of the Year after hosting the first Xtreme Bulls event on Frontier Park & partnering with Smith Pro Rodeos; top bull rider Wacey Schalla won with a 91.5-point ride.  Cap City News
