COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Maury and Bonnie Brown Foundation acquired the former Outlaw Saloon property (312 S. Greeley Highway) today to complete land requirements for the new South Side Community Center. The privately funded facility will soon offer modern recreational services for all Cheyenne residents.  Cap City News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices remain low as the national average drops below $3 and Wyoming’s state average is now $2.67 today; in Laramie County, stations like Sam’s Club at (1948 Dell Range Blvd) report prices as low as $2.28 per gallon, with low prices expected into the new year.  Cap City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oliver Fournier from Johnson Junior High was named LCSD1 Student of the Week for the week of Dec. 8 because of his strong academic performance, exemplary attendance, and leadership in sports and music (he maintains a 4.0 GPA while enrolled in honors classes).  Cap City News
  • Students from across the state gathered at the Capitol Monday morning to take part in the 'We the People: The Citizen and the State' event, which aims to teach civics and encourage respectful debate.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Supreme Court ruled that Merit Energy is not eligible for a $3M tax refund because its electricity use was for production rather than the intended transportation, sparing local governments from potential revenue clawbacks. A new law now extends the exemption to qualifying future purchases.  Cap City News
  • The Cheyenne Transit Program transfer center returns to O’Neil Avenue between 17th and 18th streets starting Wednesday, Dec. 10 after a construction project. Bus schedules see minimal changes (transfers remain efficient) with the new location.  City of Cheyenne
  • Wyoming Department of Transportation warns that light, high-profile vehicles (such as campers and moving vans) must avoid roads closed due to hazardous winds. Drivers who ignore these restrictions may face fines up to $750 or jail time.  KGAB
  • Wyoming gas prices fell by 8.4 cents in the past week to $2.63 a gallon at nearly 500 stations, easing the cost for drivers. The BLM now offers $1 firewood and Christmas tree permits until Jan. 31 — a measure to reduce wildfire risks and help families save money.  KING FM
